Nokia Widens its Lumia Series–Lumia 720 Launched
Nokia has launched another smartphone, Nokia Lumia 720 in its Windows 8 segment, priced at 19K, the phone is out on preorder on flipkart at 18,999. Lumia 720 offers a 4.3-inch 480x800 ClearBlack IPS display, a 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 chipset, a 6.7MP camera with f/1.9 lens and LED flash, 1.3MP front camera, 8GB of internal storage with an expandable storage of up to 64GB, 512MB RAM, NFC and a 2,000 mAh battery. Unlike the removable shells of Lumia 520, 620 and 820, this smartphone utilizes a unibody design reminiscent of the Lumia 920 and will be sold in five different colors - Cyan, Yellow, Black, White and Red.
What works: 6.7MP Camera, 1 GHz Qualcomm Krait, Dual Core, HD Video recording, 2000 mAh battery which promises standby time of up to 520 hrs. Though 512 MB RAM seems very limited for a smartphone, but with windows 8, we have seen no issues of memory. It has Corning Gorilla Glass for scratch free screen. Sleek design, easy and eye candy windows 8 OS.
What Doesn’t: 4.3" screen with pixel dimensions of 480x800, which means less PPI compared to Lumia 620 and even Lumia 520. Non removable shells.
Moreover, at 128mm long and 68mm wide, the Lumia 720 is very comfortable to hold much like Lumia 520. At 9mm thick, it's slimmer than the 11mm Lumia 920, and considerably lighter too, making it a much more pocket-friendly device all round.
The body is made from polycarbonate which is already seen in Lumia series. The back casing isn't removable, a feature you'll find on the cheaper 620. While that does make it feel a little more sturdy to hold, it does mean that you can't swap your case for a fresh one when your existing one gets battered. The polycarbonate material seems pretty good at shrugging off attacks from keys in your pocket, so as long as you don't take a drill to it, it should keep looking sharp for a while.
On the sides you'll find a volume rocker, power button and dedicated camera shutter button. There's a micro-USB port at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. Both the micro-SIM and microSD card slots are hidden in trays -- you'll need to use the included removal tool or a paperclip to access them just like an iPhone.
Conclusion:
The Nokia Lumia 720 is slim, attractive, with a good camera and a powerful windows 8 OS. It's let down by its screen resolution which isn't any better than the resolution on its cheaper little brothers 620 and 520. If you're keen to step into the world of Windows Phone and don't fancy shelling out the big bucks for the 920, the 720 is a fair option to consider. If you can cope with the smaller screen size though, the 620 offers most of the same features and will cost you half as much, but I would still prefer Lumia 520, which is half its price, yet boast some great features and is a great entry level phone in windows 8 world. It has higher PPI than 720, Same 512 MB Ram, a Dual Core process and same OS + removable shells and same internal memory of 8GB.
